In this brief study I will analyse the symbolic language of the films based on comics from a prac-tical point of view. I will use various theories and analysis to show the vital importance of the image to translate a text, both in a film and in a comic.

In this brief study I will analyse the symbolic language of the films based on comics from a prac-tical point of view. I will use various theories and analysis to show the vital importance of the im-age to translate a text, both in a film and in a comic. In the case of films based on comics, this fact is even more remarkable, because this kind of films try to reproduce the characteristical elements of the original comic. Comics are works where many symbolical elements appear, although they seem very insignificant. Films based on comics use various cinematographic resources to reproduce as faithful as possible the symbology which appear in the original comic. Films and comics are very different disciplines that complement to each other and that use specific elements of their fields to reproduce this symbology. The translator of films based on comics should take this fact into account to make an accurate translation. All these concepts are going to be applied in a practical way to the comic and the film The Crow, written and illustrated by James O’Barr and adapted to the screen by Alex Proyas.
